Prompt 2 - What you know and what you feel

There are so many ways this prompt can be worked with!

The date being unknown is the first point, we could be anytime in history, or we in an alternate timeline, an alternate universe, or is it just some strange plot by malevolent aliens.

Does Jim Kirk only remember working, or is it just a turn of phrase?  If he only remembers working and being an adult, why doesn't he find the lack of memory before that a problem?

Is the man wearing the hat Spock?  If so, is he still Vulcan, or is he human now?  Is this a mission to rescue Captain Kirk, or a completely different scenario?  Is it serendipity?

Why is Kirk suddenly desperate?  What feelings did he suddenly become aware of?  Dormant memories?  Or was it love at first sight?

Does he truly know... Spock?
